Hamilton beats Verstappen and Norris to Hungarian GP pole in qualifying thriller

Norris leads Piastri in McLaren one-two, while Sainz and Leclerc suffer Q3 elimination

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton charged to his first pole position of the 2024 Formula 1 season in a dramatic qualifying session at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The seven-time world champion produced a stunning final lap to pip Red Bull's Max Verstappen by just 0.044 seconds, with McLaren's Lando Norris completing the top three.

It was a disappointing qualifying for Ferrari, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc both eliminated in Q3. Sainz will start eighth, while Leclerc will line up 10th.

The Hungarian Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, July 23.
