Fritz fired in 18 Aces, won 83% of 1st-serve points, and saved all 4 break points he faced.
Fritz, the 23-year old American and 11th seed, reached the 2nd round of the US Open for the first time after a 7-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 win over German qualifier Oscar Marterer on Tuesday night in New York.
Fritz fired in 18 aces, won 83% of his first-serve points, and saved all four break points he faced.
Fritz, a semi-finalist in Indian Wells earlier this year, said he was "really happy" to get his first US Open win.
"It felt different," Fritz said. "It felt like I was playing with a lot more freedom. I was just trying to go for my shots and not really worry about the result too much."
Fritz will face France’s Benjamin Bonzi in the 2nd round.
